Ensenada, Mexico contacts at UNAM/ UABC and CICESE
Because the winds and currents are pushing South
eventually the Tenacious may drift into Mexican
waters. Consequently, I’m looking for contacts that
might have known Jim or might be able to help in
Mexico, Especially in the port city of Ensanada.
Two promising areas are the Ensanada Oceanography and
Astronomy groups.

A call could be made to the San Diego chandlery Downwind Marine 1-619-224-2733. They service the boating community that goes south into Mexico and have many contacts there.

A Mexican friend called to “Secretaria de Marina”
+52 55 5624-6500 ext. 8907 & 8911
and was told the Marina emergency number is
01 800 Marina 1
(01 800 627462 1)
I strongly suggest this number to be the one included in the Poster.
Additionally,
The “Capitan de permanencia” said that in order for the Mexican Marina to
start a search a Fax with complete information should be sent to
+52 55 5684-9642
The fax should include information such as:
- What has the US Coast Guard done so far.
- What was the boat’s route
- Since then is the person missing.
- Contact in the US (either permanent phone number or e-mail)
I don’t think we are ready to movilize the Mexican Marina for any thing,
other than to broadcast the missing person message. They will require
information with a strong case as the US Guard Coast, that justifies a
search, which I personally find very reasonable.
So, I think the next step is to get the Spanish version of the poster with
the
01 800 Marina 1
(01 800 627462 1)
and find a way to post it in the Mexican marinas. I probably can get some
help from my friends in Ensenada to hang the posters.
Some other people in the blog also offered themselves as having good
contacts in Mexico. They could help to hang the posters.
Matt’ suggestions is also very good as way to distribute the poster and spread the voice
