No More Phase 1 Images at Mechnical Turk

The volunteers have processed all the 560,000 images that we made available through the Mechanical Turk Website. The images were the low-res and hi-res satellite images and the ER-2 near-infrared images.  Experts continue to use Mechanical Turk for the review of the images marked by the volunteers to construct a list of high-potential candidates for hand-off to the Coast Guard for consideration.

Aww. Too bad they closed the search just when I implemented this script (http://blog.nometers.com/?p=25) that allows you to accept or reject the value of an image simply by pressing ‘+’ or ‘-’ on the keyboard (no more scrolling, clicking, etc).

Anyways, I hope our efforts helped the search team and Jim Gray would soon be found (alive of course!).

PS: I processed about 300 images.

    Hi,

Can the Tiles be viewed a Second Time?

Someone may have missed seeing something?

I would like to search the Tiles again.

Just send me the link, where I can view them, please.

    Never Give Up Hope,

    Leonard Hennan

    Greetings,

I too would like a chance to go over the images despite all the current images being viewed. As stated above, different eyes see different things so there might be something that may have been either missed or misinterpreted.

This phase is stated to be complete, however submitted MTurk units have not yet been marked as accepted/rejected?

The images can be sent to the photogometery experts in Sacramento. It’s called Geologic Investigation Services They have the technology to view aerial photo’s and determine if a body is visable in the water.
Also the webcams around Sausalito, the cliff house, Angel Island, Point Reyes, and the Exporitorium as anyone checked the data?

I didn’t know Mr. Grey but I helped go through the images on the MTurk site. I did approximately 1100 images. One image that I found looked a lot like the example from the MTurk site that they gave us to follow - hard lines in that boat shape and it was about the size of the example that they showed on the same page. It had kind a a “fuzz” around the hard lines- I can’t explain it very well. I put a note on the entry under remarks - “please look at right away”. I hope I did all 1100 correctly- I was looking for bigger things with hard lines- like the example, some of the post I read sounds like people you were looking for microscopic things. I tried to follow the example the best I could. I hope I did it right. Like I said one of the ones I submitted looked an awful lot like the example that was on the web page at Mturk.

Denice, maybe you got the image I was looking at. I got so excited to capture the image for later that by the time I tried to accept the HIT, somebody else already got it. My capture is at:

However, the boat there (if that’s what it is, near the bottom) looks significantly smaller than Jim’s boat according to the guideline pics. Then again, even if it’s someone else out there on a little boat, it may be worthy of concern.
